ISLANDS
This game is a variation of Musical Chairs. You need 1 piece of A4 paper or newspaper per child, to be an Island. These should be laid randomly on the floor around the venue.
Music is played and the children must dance/jump around between the pieces of paper. When the music stops, the children must stand on an Island- after the first practice round, an Island, is removed (if you have lots of children, it may be advisable to remove more than one Island in each round).
Children out must wait to one side, maybe given a sweet and the winner is the last child on an Island.
STUCK IN THE SWAMP
This game requires a fair amount of space to run around.
One child is ‘It’ and he chases all the other Children. If he touches any other child, they become stuck in the Swamp. This means they must stand still with their legs wide apart.
Any other child free can crawl through the ‘stuck’ child’s legs and free them from the swamp.
If a child is caught while trying to rescue someone else, they must join the first child and also become ‘It’.
The last person caught is the winner, and they then become it in the next round.
CAPTAIN SAYS
This is a variation of 'Simon says'- an adult is selected to be captain and stands before the children. The children must follow these instructions each time you say 'Captain Says...'
For example, if you say 'Captain says hop on one leg' all children must hop on one leg. However, if you don’t say Captain says...' before an instruction, the children must remain still.
Any child doing the action without Captain saying so is out.
Examples of instructions include:
• Jump up and down
• Sit down
• Hop on one leg
• Make an animal noise ie sheep/cow etc
• Wave your arms in the air
• Turn around
• Pat your head
CHOCOLATE GAME
You will need a large bar of chocolate on a plate, Knife and Fork, various items to dress up in ie hat, scarf gloves and sunglasses (you could adapt the dressing up to your theme-Pirate hat/ Tiara/, Eye Patch, Feather Boa etc).
The children sit in a circle. The chocolate is placed in the centre with the knife and fork, with the dressing up items alongside.
The children take turns to throw the die. The first to throw a six goes into the centre, put on the clothes and tries to eat the chocolate using only the Knife and Fork.
Meanwhile, the remaining children continue to throw the die. As soon as the next child throw a six, the centre child removes the dressing up clothes, stops eating and the next child takes over trying to eat the chocolate.
The first child to eat all the chocolate is the winner.
DON’T WAKE THE GUARD
For this game you will need a chair and a large bunch of keys (noisier the better)
Someone is chosen to be the guard, either child or adult. They then sit on a chair facing forward.
The bunch of keys is placed underneath the chair and the guard closes his eyes, pretending to be asleep.
The remaining children sit some distance behind the chair as quiet as possible.
The object is for a child to creep up to the guard, picking up the keys and bring them back without the guard hearing them.
POORLY PIRATES
The ships doctor is very worried about a mysterious disease sweeping through the ship. The only answer is to wrap the pirates in bandages to prevent them catching this disease!!
The children are divided into pairs- one poorly pirate, the other ship’s doctor . Each doctor is given a roll of toilet paper and on th word GO must wrap the pirate from head to toe.
The winners are the pair who has the least amount of pirate showing!
If you have a lot of children you can have small teams or volunteer an adult to be wrapped.
TIP: don’t go for the really cheap toilet paper as it tends to tear very easily and can be quite frustrating! Remember to bring a bin bag to collect paper.

POSING PRINCESS/ POUTING PRINCESSES
These games are a variation on Musical Statues.
Princesses dance around to the music. When it stops the children must pose or hold a pout and remain as still as possible.
The children that move are out and wait at the side, maybe getting a sweet.
The winner is the last child remaining.
FAIRY FOOTSTEPS
An adult is chosen as the Fairy Queen . She stands at on end of the venue with her back to the children. Behind the adult is a prize of your choice.
The object of the game is for the children to creep up slowly behind the Fairy Queen and the winner takes the prize without her knowing. The fairy Queen must keep turning around at regular intervals. When she does this, the children must stand still.
The children are out if they move.
